How to Prepare for a Typhoon[]

Unlike earthquakes, typhoons are generally preceded by a fair warning period. There are a number of things you can do to prepare for a typhoon.

  • Listen to the radio for updates on the size and expected severity of the typhoon. Eagle 810, the American Forces radio station, provides information in English.
  • Make sure that anything you store outside has been secured. The wind during a typhoon can be strong enough to knock over even very heavy objects (which can then go on to damage property or injure people).
  • Fill up your car with gas.
  • Make sure you have enough food and drinking water for a few days.
  • Prepare an emergency kit that includes a flashlight and a radio that runs on batteries.
