Should we have a policy about where the events take place? Only Tsukuba? Ibaraki? Kanto? Japan? Actually, maybe it doesn't matter where they are, but perhaps we should find a way to make a clear distinction between LOCAL events and other events so people can see clearly what is happening here in Tsukuba. -- Shaney 08:15, 6 Aug 2005 (UTC)

I was thinking about the events before the recent spate of Tokyo events. Do you know any other Wikis which have good events lists? Is there some way to organize events other than this kind of text list, like a calendar or something? There must be some good calendar template software for Wikipedia. What would be good would be something which updates "Today's events" every day, etc. Anyway the recent crop of events in Tokyo seem just as relevant as the Mito Komon Matsuri to me. Let's scout around other Wikicities to see how they organize their events.--Ben 08:28, 6 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Good thinking. Let's try to see what's out there. -- Shaney 08:53, 6 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Re-organized Events[]

I moved the events to their own monthly pages. I also separated out events that take place in Tsukuba from events that take place elsewhere. There may be a better way to do this, but this is the best I can think of now. (If we come up with a new system, we have to remember that it should be easy enough for anyone to be able to add events at any time, without special knowledge of tables, etc.) -- Shaney 03:05, 8 Aug 2005 (UTC)

I'm trying to make it so that we don't have to do a lot every month to keep the events list updated. The way it is now, we just have to delete "Events in August 2005" (or whatever month just passed) from the Events page. I could also make the link on the navigational bar point directly to the current month (instead of the Events page as it does now, but that would entail changin the link promptly on or near the first of every month. Since the navigation can only be changed by administrators, that would mean that the administrators would have to stay on top of it. Is it worth the extra hassle to have the events page go directly to the current month? -- Shaney 06:52, 8 Aug 2005 (UTC)
